Those of you who were there with us will surely agree, Summer 2009 has been a wild one. We had many legendary, as well as up and coming artists pass through San Diego, and we were treated to alot of good Reggae vibes the whole time.
2009 marked our second Summer season at U-31 on Sunday nights, and it’s interesting to see how far this club has gone, and what is has become since it’s doors opened. Our Sunday Night Reggae Dance has been poppin’ since before the turn of the Millenium, and U-31 has provided a good home for what is San Diego’s Sunday Night Reggae Music Tradition.
Most of us met a lot of new friends from Australia this summer, including Selectress Night Nurse.
Selector I-Vier from Jah Warrior Shelter Hi-Fi (San Francisco) made an appearance for Dash Eye, Rashi, and Mel’s B-Day.
We celebrated our 12 year anniversary with Sweden’s own Dancehall Superstar Million Styles.
Tribe Of Kings was pleased to welcome Dancehall Legend Nardo Ranks to San Diego.
This Summer also marked our second season of shows at The Wavehouse, inside historical Belmont Park, in Mission Beach. Every Friday we hosted a local Reggae band for Laid Back Fridays, with artists like Mike Pinto, The Bredren, Cualli, Tribal Theory and Southtown Generals.
We were also glad to be a part of some the bigger Reggae shows that went down at The Wavehouse.
Mission Beach was blessed by the golden voice, of the one and only Beres Hammond. (We were also joined backstage by the members of Steel Pulse)
St. Croix’s own Midnite put on great show for San Diego’s Roots Reggae fanatics.
The big treat of the Summer, amidst rumors of him not coming to San Diego after a cancellation earlier in the Summer, the fans were ecstatic to bare witness to one of Reggae Music’s greatest singers, Gregory Isaacs.
Of course, some of you were in attendance many of our other events, big and small, through the summer. Some of which, unfortunately, we have no pictures from. Definitely worth mentioning, was the Sister Nancy show in the heart of Downtown San Diego at Deco’s for DJ Big Daddy’s b-day celebration, where she murdered every riddim thrown at her.
Tribe Of Kings would like to thank all of you who came out to our events this Summer, and made them ALL a success. What a way to cap off this interesting decade. We look forward to bringing more high quality events to town, for San Diego’s ever growing Reggae crowd.
